Allan Ng, counsellor in Singapore, smiling in a professional headshot.

Hello, I’m Allan.

I’m a counsellor based in Singapore, and I create safe, affirming spaces for anyone who feels unseen or unheard.  My journey into counselling began with the LGBTQ+ community, where I witnessed firsthand how many struggled to find a place where they could truly be themselves. I wanted to create a practice where people feel heard, respected, and understood – no matter who walks through the door.

Clients often describe me as warm, straightforward, and not afraid to name what’s happening in the room. You’ll find a space here that balances empathy with honesty, and seriousness with moments of humour and lightness.

When I’m not counselling, I love theatre (ask me about my top three Broadway shows – most recently Oh,  Mary!, The Outsiders, and Suffs), audiobooks, and tennis stats. I share my life with my husband Mark, and together we’re always exploring new cities and learning new things.

My Approach

At the core of my practice is Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). EFT is an evidence-based approach developed by Dr. Sue Johnson and the International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT). EFT is designed to help people:

  • Make sense of and regulate overwhelming emotions

  • Heal from past attachment injuries and trauma

  • Develop healthier, more secure ways of relating to themselves and others

  • Create lasting emotional resilience

I chose EFT because it reflects what I believe therapy should be: warm, relational, and deeply human. In our sessions, we’ll go beyond just “thinking about” problems. We’ll work with the emotions at the heart of your struggles, so that real change feels real and sustainable.  Every session is a safe, non-judgmental space where your identity, experiences, and emotions are respected and welcomed.

MY CREDENTIALS

Education & Recognition

I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling & Guidance from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE–NTU), and a Bachelor of Counselling from the Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS).

Along the way, I was honoured to graduate top of my cohort, serving as Valedictorian, and to receive the NIE International Gold Medal and the Anthony Yeo Memorial Award. These honours affirm that counselling is not just my profession, but a natural fit for who I am.

Professional Memberships

I’m a Provisional Clinical Member of the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC, Membership No. D1374). This means I follow SAC’s professional and ethical standards, while staying connected to a community of counsellors who are committed to best practices. Membership also gives me ongoing opportunities to learn, reflect, and grow as a practitioner.

I’m also a Registered Enrichment Instructor with Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE), authorised to conduct Leadership and Lifeskills (Communication Skills) programmes across primary, secondary, and pre-university schools.

Ongoing Development

I believe good therapists never stop learning. I’m currently in the final stages of becoming a Certified Career Counsellor (CCC) with the National Career Development Association (NCDA), and I regularly participate in workshops and advanced training sessions. This helps me bring the latest research and skills into our sessions, so the support you receive is both up-to-date and compassionate.

My NTU Master’s in Counselling & Guidance has been independently verified by ECE as equivalent to a U.S. Master’s in Counseling Psychology.
